Taking or Giving Credit

Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men (Matthew 12:31).

It would be very rare for a Christian to blaspheme the Holy Spirit by ascribing His works to Satan, which is the only sin listed in the Bible as unpardonable. However, we take credit for His works and ascribe them to ourselves all too often, especially for many of the blessings sent our way.

Every good gift, and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow or turning (James 1:17).

In our false pride, we gloat over our accomplishments, flaunt our wealth, and strut in our successes. We should recognize the good things in our lives as the blessings they are. As children of God, we are not self-made people, but His people, molded and shaped by Him. We are blessed that we might be a blessing to others.

Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name, Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits (Psalm 103:1-2).

We should be praising and honoring God, as David and others constantly remind us in the Bible. We should give God the glory and not try to shine the spotlight on ourselves. Jesus is the important One who brought light into a dark world. Let us never forget to whom we belong.
