 Sowing Seeds

Behold a man went out to sow (Matthew 15:3b).

We all sow some type of seeds each day, and often many kinds. Seeds of acceptance, encouragement, support, appreciation, and brotherly love can nurture, grow, and produce fruit. But seeds of rejection, criticism, ridicule, contempt, and hate will wither, deplete, and dry up. Bad seeds produce unusable fruit if they produce any fruit at all.

It's important to follow the Golden Rule and treat others the way we want to be treated. Jesus also taught us to love our neighbors as ourselves. If you're having a bad day, taking it out on others won't help things get better. In fact, that will make you feel worse. Smiling at others will make your day brighter. Being kind and generous will lift your mood.

If we sow good seeds, not only do we help those we meet, but we also help ourselves. Being contentious about the things we don't like hurts us more than the ones we disparage, even if it's about politics. Let's make up our minds to follow Jesus and to sow good seeds, not bad.
