Signs That We are God's Children

...  therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not (1 John 3:1).

In his first epistle, John gives us at least five indicators that we are children of God, although these aren't exclusive. First, we will be noticeably different from worldly people, and because of this, the world will not recognize us. In fact, people with little faith may try to ignore us if they don't actually turn to ridicule.

Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God (1 John 3:9).

Once a person belongs to the Lord and has a close, personal relationship with Him, he or she will not want to continue in known sin. There will be no desire to do so because we would be betraying our greatest love. What we have with Jesus is so much greater and more special than anything the world has to offer. We become more and more conscious of God's hand in our lives and His unmeasurable, unconditional love (1 John 5:1-2).

We know that we have passed from death into life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not the brethren, abideth in death (1 John 3:14).

We also begin to have a godly love for fellow believers. We cherish the fellowship we enjoy with church members and special friends. We strengthen and help one another as we continue on our journey of faith. Christ keeps us true and faithful so that we can complete the tasks he assigns us (1 John 5:20). Nothing will ever have more meaning or be more satisfying
