A double minded man is unstable in all his ways (James 1:8).
There are too many Christians out there today who are trying to live a double life. In fact, they almost have split personalities, because they're trying to live for the world and still live for God. No wonder they're so confused. No wonder they don't do either well. It can't be done, because, as the Bible tells us, the world's ways and God's ways are diametrically opposed.
...purify your hearts, ye double-minded (James 3:8b).
Such a person is like a unfaithful spouse. He or she wants worldly success and still have God's blessings. The person wants worldly recognition and still receive those crowns of righteousness in heaven. But we can't have it both ways. We can't belong to the world and belong to God at the same time. The Lord doesn't accept a portion of our allegiance. We must give Him all or nothing.
If we truly love God and place our faith in Him, then worldly things will mean little to us. We will shun the evils the world wants to offer. We need to make the same choice Joshua told the Israelites to make:
...choose you this day whom you will serve;...but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15).
